Product deep dive: Mycelium Panels

Can nature’s own technology make buildings more energy efficient, and help us reach climate goals? In this edition of our "product deep dive" series we focus on mycelium panels, developed by EASI ZERo partner SQIM srl, Mogu

What are they?

Mycelium panels are 100% bio-based insulation materials created from the root structure of fungi grown on agricultural waste. These panels are cultivated rather than manufactured, with mycelium acting as a natural binder that transforms organic fibers into solid, durable panels.

Applications
•       Acoustic panels
•       Decorative wall finishes with natural aesthetics
•       Interior thermal insulation

Environmental benefits
•       Low waste production: The panels are grown using agricultural by-products as raw material
•       Low energy production: The panels are naturally grown, so minimal machinery is required
•       Fully biodegradable at the end of life

Watch how it’s made!

In the Product Deep Dive series, we explore the different materials developed within the EASI ZERo project, as part of our initiative to create low-carbon solutions for energy-efficient building renovation. We discover what the products are, how they can be applied, and their environmental benefits.
