Final conference: watch the video from Brussels
Last week we joined our consortium partners in Brussels to conclude 3.5 years of innovation work in the EASI ZERo project. A journey of research, testing and close collaboration across 16 European partners on the next generation of bio-based, recycled and advanced technologies for efficient and low-carbon energy renovation of Europe's buildings. Together we've moved a portfolio of innovative solutions from concept, test and demonstration to validation and close to market ready.
First, keynote speaker Thaleia Konstantinou from Delft University of Technology, set the tone: scaling new materials isn't just technical - it's about supply chains, psychological barriers, cost differentials and motivation across the entire value chain.
Then, the panel discussion "From Project Results to Market Uptake", chaired by Ana Nanu from BPIE allowed us to discuss the innovatins in depth. Here are some key takeaways from the panel discussion:
Benedikt Schug (Fraunhofer ISC), and Dr. Ashwinikumar Sharma (INDRESMAT): The gap between lab and industrial replication is real: innovation is an iterative game.
Dr. Marina Stipetic (University of Stuttgart): Certification is a major friction point for novel products, and SMEs carry a disproportionate burden. Her recommendation: join forces and share data!
Europe's buildings still account for 40% of energy use and 36% of GHG emissions, and renovation rates need to double by 2030. The materials and knowledge are here. What comes next will be shaped by certification pathways, investor readiness, workforce training and policies.
Huge thanks and congratulations to the entire EASI ZERo consortium, and a special thanks to Philippe Thony and Arnaud Jay for the project coordination!
